Life Goes On
~Chaper One~This is my new story. There will not be any pictures, so this will just be a normal story. It will go on for a few chapters and then I will end it. Well here goes.
"Shit!" Elena cussed under her breath as blood started steadily flowing from her index finger, which she had just sliced open while dicing tomatoes.
She had been slaving over a hot stove all day, making her husband's faviorite meal when all she really wanted to do was order takeout. She hated cooking more than anything else, but today is a special day. Her husband, Nick, is coming home from spending a year fighting in Iraq. She had to make his homecoming as special as possible.
Earlier that week Elena had called all of Nick's friends and invited them to his homecoming. Tonight is going to be perfect, Elena and Nick's daughter, Jessica, had made a beautifulbanner and the mother, daughter pair had decorated the whole house.
Elena looked at the clock. 5:30, the guests would be showing up soon, so Elena put a band-aid on her finger and went upstairs to put her party outfit on and get Jessica ready. She simply let her long black hair flow down her back and added a simple flower. She then hurried back downstairs to finish dinner.
The doorbell soon rang and Elena sent Jessica to get the door while she finished the meal. Right when Elena had layed the meal out on the table, the phone rang and she ran back to the kitchen to answer it.
"Jacobson residence, this is Elena," said Elena in her blank monotone phone voice.
"Mrs. Jacobson," a man said in a heavy British accent.
"Yes," Elena answers starting to get a little worried, she had heard this voice before many years ago when her mother recieved a phone call saying that her father had died in the war. Elena hoped that this was not the case, because the only person in the war was Nick.
"My name is Stephen Smith, and I'm calling about your husband Nicholas."
"Go on," Elena says, her voice cracking a little.
"Your husband's plane was shot down this morning. The plane caught on fire and everyone inside was burned beyond recognition. Based on dental records, we found out that one of the bodies was your husband's. I am truly sorry Mrs. Jacobson," he says in the calm voice of a man who has delievered this kind of news time and time again.
"Mrs. Jacobson?" he says, but gets no answer because Elena had dropped the phone and fallen on the floor holding her stomach and gasping for air. Terrible, wracking sobs filled her body and tears fell down her face with a speed you couldn't even think possible. She didn't even make an effort to get up when Jessica walked in. No, she was much to heartbroken for that....
